Pride In Our Community

The Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center of Worthington was envisioned to fulfill community needs for a central arts and community gathering space. It will enhance the richness of community life, strengthen the educational environment, and increase opportunities for the arts as a vocation or fulfilling avocation.

The Arts Center will be a centerpiece venue for the arts community, featuring a 220-seat auditorium, classrooms, studios, offices and exhibit spaces. Most of these areas will be multi-use and will be available for public and private meetings as well as social gatherings.

Art/Fact
The Worthington Chamber of Commerce identifies 282 community groups that call Worthington their home. The Arts Center will provide these groups with a natural place to meet, host special events or socialize. Other individuals and groups will benefit from the Center's locations and amenities for their gatherings as well.

Pride In Our Vision

The arts play an integral role in our city's prosperity by:

  • Uniting community members through performances, exhibits, receptions, classes, forums and dialogue.
  • Providing well-coordinated, cooperatively-marketed, easily-accessible cultural offerings
  • Expanding the opportunities the City of Worthington, the Worthington School District and the Worthington Arts Council already provide
  • Embracing and enlightening community members from all walks of life, and of all ages — from seniors to preschoolers
  • Rejuvenating a culturally significant community building and carrying its heritage as a community gathering place into the future
  • Making Worthington a destination location and enhancing its reputation as one of central Ohio's leading suburbs

Pride In Our Creativity

Worthington is home to many artists of national — even international — reputation. Visual and performing artists, writers and more have found Worthington a comfortable place to live and work. Worthington also boasts many community groups dedicated to the practice and enjoyment of the arts, including: Columbus Bach Ensemble, Con Brio Children's Choir, Chamber Music Connection, Worthington Community Theatre, Worthington Chorus, Worthington Songsters, Alliance Men's Chorus, Worthington Area Art League, Amalia Consort, Central Ohio Theater Organ Society, Colonial Hills Cloggers, Worthington Civic Band, Worthington Craft Guild, Worthington Music Club, Kilbourne Repertory Theater, Thomas Worthington Repertory Theater, and the Worthington Historical Society. Others providing arts programming include the City of Worthington, Worthington Libraries, Worthington churches and Worthington schools.

Pride In Our Heritage

The Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center of Worthington will be located in the historically significant Worthington High School, near downtown Worthington at the corner of Evening Street and State Route 161. Built in 1915, this landmark is often referred to as "the Packard Annex" in honor of its architect, noted Ohioan Frank Packard.

Pride In Building Our Community

The idea for an Arts Center in Worthington first surfaced many years ago. The campaign to fund it began in earnest in 1998, when the City of Worthington, the Worthington School Board, and the Worthington Arts Council formed a partnership to determine the feasibility of establishing such a center. Plans evolved with the input of community members working together to make this community vision a reality.
